Paul Feig, director of hits like “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” will be directing a reboot of the famed “Ghostbusters” movies instead of sequel. In a recent interview, Feig talks about his plans for an all-female cast, in spite of critics saying an all-female cast would not feel the same as the original.

Feig first confirmed to his fans as well as “Ghostbusters” fans that he would be directing the movies’ reincarnation in a Tweet on Wednesday.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feig clarified what he meant by “hilarious women” and talked about his plans for the film.

“My favorite thing to do is work with funny women. I was like, what if it was an all female cast? If they were all women? Suddenly, my mind kind of exploded: that would be really fun. And then I thought, well, what if we just make it new? It’s not coming into the world that existed before,” he told Entertainment Weekly, confirming that he would recreate the “Ghostbusters” world.

He told EW: “I love the first one so much I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that.” Therefore, he would rather start over, adding that he wants the technology to be cooler and movie scarier.

However, not everyone agrees with Feig’s vision. Former “Ghostbusters” cast member Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore, rejected Feig’s idea.

"I heard it was going to be a total reboot, and that it would have nothing to do with the other two movies," he said, according to the Telegraph. "If it has nothing to do with the other two movies, and it's all female, then why are you calling it Ghostbusters?”

He does not oppose women in the cast, "but all-female I think would be a bad idea. I don't think the fans want to see that.”

Similarly, a Deadline article questioned an all-female cast. But, Feig believes the idea will work and does not understand the backlash.

“I just don’t understand why it’s ever an issue anymore,” he told EW about the question of whether women are funny. “I really cannot believe we’re still having this conversation.”
