Spanish Text Banking Offered to Spanish-Speaking Customers, Helping Hispanic Small Business Owners Toward the Future of Banking
Wells Fargo has announced a new offer to help meet the needs of Hispanic consumers and small business owners and accommodate the fast-growing demand for mobile services that help owners stay on top of their business when they are away from computers and offices.
Forty percent of small business owners use mobile services to help them conduct their business. And because countless business owners are Latino, Wells Fargo has unveiled a convenient text banking service in Spanish, allowing Spanish-speaking customers to conduct personal and professional business.
"Our convenient text banking service now offers customers the option of performing certain account transactions in Spanish via their mobile phone. Through simple and secure text queries, text banking is the fastest, easiest way for customers to see a snapshot of their accounts," said Brett Pitts, head of product management for Wells Fargo's Digital Channels Group. "We are proud to enable even more customers with access to account information in ways that best meet their changing needs and preferences. Text banking is convenient, and customers say it works well with their busy lifestyles."
A recent survey conducted by Social Lens Research for Mobile Future, in partnership with USHCC and LATISM, has shown that 62 percent of Hispanic business owners attribute the growth of their business to mobile technology and 83 percent of them agree that mobile technology has increased productivity. The launch of Spanish text banking allows Spanish-speaking customers helps to nudge Latinos away from traditional banking and toward the future of banking.
Customers can easily enroll by texting 93557 ("WELLS") on a traditional numerical keypad. Then, customers can text "Comandos" or "CMD" for a complete list of Wells Fargo's text banking commands. "SAL TODO" ("get all balances") automatically shows current available balances in a text message. "VEN" determines Wells Fargo credit card payment information.
"ACC" shows recent account activity. "CAJ" along with the customer's city and state or ZIP code (e.g. "CAJ 94118" or "CAJ San Diego CA") shares a list of nearby Wells Fargo ATM locations.
Spanish Text Banking offers Spanish-speaking customers a safe and easy way to manage their finances with their mobile phones. In-language capabilities for Hispanic consumers provide Hispanics with access to account information in ways that best meet their changing needs and preferences.
"As reported by Geoscape, Hispanic-owned businesses are expected to grow to more than 3.22 million and they are projected to generate $486 billion in revenue this year," Tim Rios, Senior Vice President and Community Development Manager at Wells Fargo, said to Latin Post. "Wells Fargo wants to make sure that we are there for these business owners every step of the way and we want to continue to encourage and support their growth by providing them with the right set of tools and resources for the success of their businesses and essentially the U.S. economy."
With Wells Fargo, Hispanic entrepreneurs can also receive tools and tips regarding convenient ways to pay for business expenses and business credit cards, and business lines of credit, which can offer supplement cash flow for business expansion, taxes, insurance or other expenses. They also encourage small business owners to visit WellsFargoWorks.com or HandsonBanking.org, to find out more information on how to start and grow a business or visit their nearest Wells Fargo store to talk to a banker about all of their small business needs.
At the 2014 USHCC Annual National Convention, where Wells Fargo was the sponsor, the bank had the opportunity to connect with small business owners face-to-face to better understand their needs, and encourage them to engage with other small businesses and participate in the workshops.
