"Star Wars," "The Avengers," and "Guardians of the Galaxy" costumes are top picks for kids and adults.

Costumes depicting the characters from Disney's animated blockbuster "Frozen" are a hit with the kids. According to searches, girls are opting for the role of Princess Anna or her sister, Snow Queen Else, while boys are choosing the snowman Olaf costume.

Disney's "Maleficent" characters Princess Aurora and villainess Maleficent are popular costumes for women and girls, as is "The Hunger Games" main character Katniss. Superhero costumes Wonder Woman and Catwoman remain strong favorites.

Captain American, pirate, superhero and "Stars Wars" character costumes are top ranking Halloween costume choices for boys and men.

It appears that characters from video-game Assassin's Creed are the only non-movie-themed costumes to infiltrate top costume searches.

More people are incorporating pets into their Halloween celebration. Searches for dog costumes are trending about 15 percent higher than last year, reports Google. Dog-spider costumes are the most popular.
