The NFL football season is nearly halfway done and you are still watching it on an outdated television. Now is the time to invest in a big-screen TV because prices are lower than ever.

Here's what to look for when buying a brand new big-screen TV.

Brand: It's not a big deal anymore. It used to be. However, now with smaller companies coming out of the Koreas, China and Taiwan, you can save a ton of cash by buying an off-brand like Seiki.

Size: It's all about viewing angle of your room and the size of your room. If you have a small room and you have a huge TV, it is going to hurt your eyes. But, if you have a nice big family room and want to get a nice-sized big-screen, you can.

LED or Plasma or "4K": LED is the preferred style of TV, but that's not to say Plasma is a poor choice. In fact, there are big discounts out there these days for Plasma TVs because the technology never gained much popularity. 4K is a new technology that is just too expensive to buy right now. Give it a year and it will be affordable.

1080 is the way to go: In big screens, you want a full 1080p display. Anything 32 inches or less you can manage with the 720p.

SMART TVs are worth it: For a few extra bucks, you can opt for a Smart TV. These TVs have apps like Netflix and Facebook and allow you to get much more out of your TV than just TV channels. It's worth the extra money.
