Super Smash Bros 4. for Wii U: Nintendo Direct Releases New Characters, Custom Stages & Importing From 3DS
On Thursday, Nintendo Direct revealed a host of features for the new Super Smash Bros. 4 game, including the free characters Mewtwo and Ridley. The event was "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: 50 Must-See Things."
The focal feature of the event was the announcement of the eight-player mode for the Wii U version, which will be released on Nov. 21 in the U.S., according to Latin Times. The game will be released on Dec. 5 in the U.K.
The Wii U version features the same gameplay as Nintendo DS and almost the same character line-up with differences in stages, options and modes. Mewtwo is an extra playable character but not be available until spring 2015. Another new character in the Wii U version is Ridley, the enemy of Metroid, although it is not a playable character. Ridley will appear in the background when you reach the Pyrosphere stage. He will join your team and fight together with you if you attack him a number of times. When he eats enough energy, he will turn into Meta Ridley.
Other features of the Wii U version include the option to have custom stages built, which can be shared with other gamers online when a future update becomes available. It was also announced that a special Miiverse stage will be added after the launch of the Wii U version. Actual posts from players will be seen in this special stage.
The functions of the Amiibo were also discussed aside from the confirmation from Nintendo that custom fighters from the 3DS version could be imported by Wii U users.
The eight-player capability on Wii U is limited to only a few modes and stages, according to Forbes. To accommodate eight players, you need one Wii U gamepad controller and any of these: seven Wiimotes, seven Wii U Pro controllers, eight Gamecube controllers or eight 3DSs as controllers, which should each have a copy of the game.
