Greig Fraser has joined Gareth Edwards' standalone "Star Wars" film after Disney announced that there would be standalone films of the franchise.

The cinematographer revealed the news during an interview with Incontention. He told the website, "I'm doing a 'Star Wars' movie, which is like -- I don't know about you but 'Star Wars' is like my first film love, do you know what I mean? ... Gareth is doing a standalone film. Of course I do know some specifics, but it's obviously something I've signed my kidneys away for."

While it is unknown what the film will be about, Disney has chosen the correct cinematographer for the job. Fraser is currently one of the most sought-after cinematographers and he is getting a lot of Oscar buzz for his work in "Foxcatcher."

Fraser has also worked on "Killing Them Softly" and the upcoming "The Gambler." For those who are worried whether he has experience with action, Fraser shot "Zero Dark Thirty," which had one of the most suspenseful action sequences of 2012. He also did the blockbuster hit "Snow White and the Huntsman," which was hailed for its dazzling visuals.

The inclusion of Fraser may be a plus but it could mean that this new standalone may have a very different look than previous "Star Wars" installments. Fraser's aesthetic has tended to be extremely moody and he has used very opaque colors in most of his movies. For example 2012's "Snow White" was filled with blacks and grays and it told an extremely dark tale that had not been seen before in a Snow White film.

His latest work on "Foxcatcher" also has a cold and blue aesthetic. The overall tone of the film is very moody and gloomy.

However, Fraser is perfect for Edwards because the director's first two films "Monsters" and "Godzilla" have been dark. Neither one of these films have used a great amount of color. Instead, Edwards has kept his films very subdued.

At the moment there isn't any clear indication as to what the upcoming film will be about but rumors suggest that it will be Boba Fett movie about the dubious character set against the seedy underworld of a galaxy far, far away.

If rumors are true, this story would fit Edwards and Frasers' filmmaking styles. Fett's story is said to be very sad and tormenting, and it is one that many fans have wanted to see explored.

The movie is set to begin filming in London next year and Disney is set to announce casting very soon.

The "Star Wars" universe will be explored further as Disney is planning more standalone films and has already set a director for "Star Wars Episode VIII." Rian Johnson will direct Episode VIII once J.J Abrams finished the seventh installment.

Meanwhile "Star Wars Episode VII" is currently in production and is set to be released in December 2015. The movie is being directed by Abrams and stars Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Domhnall Gleeson, Warwick Davis, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong'o, Max Von Sydow, Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels.
