Twitter Has Removed Its Google Glass App, Feature Reportedly Permanently Gone Once Deleted
Without any formal announcement, Twitter has abruptly stopped developing and sharing its Google Glass application.
According to a Reddit user and 9to5Google, the app first offered in the Glass market back in May 2013 was removed suddenly last week.
"According to Glass support Twitter is no longer developing their Glass app," Reddit user Pete716, one of the lucky "Glass explorers" who were granted to test the device before it reaches mass consumers, said. "This was one of my favorite and most used apps on Glass. If you remove Twitter from your Glass it disappears from Glassware and there is no option to reinstall it."
The social media giant's app also appears to have disappeared from MyGlass, Google Glass's app management and support center, according to 9to5Google. This means any problems current downloaded versions of the app have will likely go unresolved.
While the technology development has stopped from Twitter itself, all hope for the site's app to return to Google Glass is not lost. A third party app developer could come into the picture and restore the app to the market. However, no one has so far confirmed picking up Twitter's Google Glass app.
The loss of one of the largest social media company's support is a dark sign for Google Glass' future among businesses as well as users.
"This is bad news, not because of what it says but because of what it implies," one Redditor commented after the announcement. "The interest in Glass from major players like Twitter is decreasing, before Glass is even released to consumers."
It is not clear why Twitter decided to remove the app from the device's app marketplace, but anyone who already owns a pair of Google Glasses should be sure not to delete their Twitter app until something changes, for fear it will permanently delete.
