It was a high-energy night for country music's biggest stars Wednesday night as the 48th Annual Country Music Awards featured awards for male, female, groups and much more.

The big award of the night was Entertainer of the Year. After sweeping the night with three big awards, it was expected that Miranda Lambert would receive Entertainer of the Year. Instead, the award went to Luke Bryan.

Bryan had never won a CMA and Lambert was celebrating her fifth consecutive year of being Female Vocalist of the Year.

However, Bryan's latest tours and singles have turned him into a household name in country music. He's been around for a few years, but now he's getting big.

Lambert certainly has nothing to be ashamed of, as she won Album of the Year for her album Platinum, single of the year, "Automatic", and Female Vocalist of the Year, her 5th consecutive.

Kacey Musgraves' song "Follow Your Arrow", which tells individuals to be themselves, smoke pot or kiss a girl, even if you are a girl yourself, won the Song of the Year.

Bro Rockers Florida Georgia Line won vocal duo of the year, which was largely expected. The only real threat to them in this award category was up-and-comers Dan + Shay.

Vocal Group of the Year went to Little Big Town. The band had major performances throughout the evening, as well.

An important award, but perhaps a forgotten one, was the Musical Event of the Year Award. This award went to Lambert and Keith Urban for their duet "We Were Us."

A bigger event and perhaps a missed opportunity for the CMAs here may have been "Somethin' Bad" by Lambert and Carrie Underwood. The song is exploding on Country Radio and the CMAs failed to cash in. It may have been due to Underwood's pregnancy, as she probably preferred not to belt out "Somethin' bad's about to happen" several times with a bun in the oven.
