Emmy-winning comedy legend Bill Cosby, 77, owned the Internet on Monday, Nov. 10, after his social media team attempted generate fun meme. However, just as soon as the actor and funnyman began to spark a dialogue with his Twitter followers, by asking them to meme him with a tweet that read, "Go ahead. Meme me! #CosbyMeme," some unfortunate jokes followed.

According to Us Weekly, Cosby's checkered past was highlighted with the campaign, and its generator was eventually expunged in its entirety after followers used the gizmo to emphasize past accusations of rape and sexual misconduct charges. These accusations were originally made nearly 20 years ago.

During a stage set in Philadelphia's Trocadero Theatre in October, stand-up comic Hannibal Buress brought the subject back to the spotlight by branding Cosby a "rapist."

"He gets on TV, 'Pull your pants up, black people. I was on TV in the '80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom,'" Buress said according to E! Online. "Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches."

Earlier this year, the same allegations made headlines when writer-biographer Mark Whitaker released a memoir on Cosby, which unashamedly eliminated any information regarding Cosby's legal troubles or the various women who claimed Cosby drugged and sexually harassed them.

Around the same time, NBC briefly considered giving a sitcom based on the comedian's life the green light, NY Post reports.

Consequently, Twitter users focused less on his legendary role as Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable on the "The Cosby Show," with meme-makers texting posts such as "I just googled 'Bill Cosby' and 'rape,'" and "Define 'drugged,'" Us Weekly reported.

Cosby has yet released a press statement on the numerous sexual misconduct allegations involving 13 unnamed women that date back to 2005. Cosby eventually settled out of court a year later.

"Thirteen? It's even worse because Bill Cosby has the f---ing smuggest old black man public persona that I hate ..." Buress said in October. "'I don't curse on stage.' Well, yeah, you're a rapist, so, I'll take you saying lots of motherf---ers on Bill Cosby: Himself if you weren't a rapist. ... I want to just at least make it weird for you to watch 'Cosby Show' reruns. ... I've done this bit on stage, and people don't believe. People think I'm making it up. ... That s--- is upsetting. If you didn't know about it, trust me."
