Short videos online are becoming the in thing. You can view them on almost any device, and the market is still dying for quick bursts of entertainment. This is where Ocho could make a difference.

Ocho is an iOS app that is starting to get noticed. In fact, the app just received $1.65 million from Shark Tank star and NBA owner Mark Cuban.

The app was founded by Jourdan Urbach and Jonathan Swerdlin. Both founders wanted to create an app for people who want to share videos with their friends.

Urbach said that Ocho's goal is to "replicate the same degree of respect that Instagram creates for photos."

The difference between an app like Snapchat or other similar apps is that with Ocho users are able to change the orientation, edit the volume controls and even add voiceovers to their videos. Snapchat and Instagram's video services don't allow that.

Ocho is similar to Snapchat in that the videos are 8 seconds long, just like Vimeo and Vine, which are both largely popular. (Vine was acquired by Twitter back in 2012 for an undisclosed amount of money.)

Ocho's founders are dreaming big and refusing to be called "the little guys." They already got a hold of VICE Sports and are forming a partnership with them.

"It is not common to announce big partners at launch," said Brett Sappington, director of research at consulting firm Parks Associates. "Often, [startups] are built from the grass roots and only gain big partners after they have built a following. Typically, only larger services receive the attention of a VICE."

The app operates out of an incubator in New York City called Grand Central Tech.
