Jose Canseco Uses Twitter to Chronicle Finger Falling Off During Poker Game
Former major league baseball star Jose Canseco claims in a series of tweets on Friday that his surgically re-attached finger fell off during a recent poker game, reports CNN.
Canseco's Twitter feed reveals that an unidentified man had video footage of Canseco's finger falling off during the poker game. "This guy called my agent and sold him the video of my finger falling off. It looks kinda funny. Lol," Canseco tweeted.
The 50-year-old Canseco accidentally shot his finger while cleaning his gun in the kitchen last month, according to police. He had surgery to re-attach the finger to his hand, but according to this tweet by the athlete, it was unsuccessful: "My finger should have been amputated from the beginning. It was very loose with no bone to connect it. It was also smelling really bad."
While the loss of a finger would likely upset most people, Canseco did not seem overly concerned about the situation on Twitter Saturday morning.
"I put my finger in the freezer," he wrote. "Anyone want finger appetizers?"
Sunday on Twitter, Canseco posted how much he misses and loves his fiancée, Leila Knight. The model and businesswoman has been in Mexico working, but she's kept up with Canseco's ongoing finger drama thanks to Twitter.
This is not Canseco's first incident involving a gun. In April 1989, he was arrested for illegal possession of a handgun after police found it in his car. He plead no contest to the misdemeanor charge. He was placed on three years' probation.
The right-handed outfielder and designated hitter's major league baseball career spanned 17 years. His debut was with the Oakland Athletics. A year later, he was awarded American League Rookie of the Year.
Canseco had 462 career home runs during his baseball career. He was a six-time All-Star.
The former American League MVP admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs in his 2005 book, "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big," which sheds light on dope use in the MLB.
