Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 vs. iPad Air 2 Comparison: Specs, Pros and Cons, and Price Info You Need to Know
Here's our breakdown of how the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 stacks up against the iPad.
Pros and Cons of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1:
The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has a slightly larger display. The tablet has a little more battery life
compared to the iPad Air 2, though probably because it has less powerful hardware.
The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 may have a larger screen but it is not as vivid as the iPad Air 2's higher-resolution display. It has only 1GB RAM compared to the latter's 2GB memory. It may have a
storage expansion slot up to 32GB capacity but the Apple tab is available in a 128GB version.
Pros and Cons of the iPad Air 2:
The iPad Air 2 may have a slightly smaller display by .4 inch, but with more pixel density it
is brighter and clearer. In the iPad Air 2, Apple has created a tablet that easily beats its
competition. It has an 8-MP primary camera which is much better than the Galaxy Tab 2's 3.15-
MP lens. It has a more powerful CPU and more RAM, and even with almost an equivalent size,
it is almost 150g lighter.
Probably the only thing that goes against the iPad Air 2 is that it is has a slightly smaller display.
But that difference is almost inconspicuous. It is also expensive by $100-$200 compared to the
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
Specs:
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 features a 10.1-inch PLS TFT display with a resolution of
800x1280 pixels and a pixel density of 149ppi. It was initially offered with Android Ice Cream
Sandwich but Samsung released Jelly Bean updates to most models. The tablet is available in
16GB and 32GB versions with storage expansion up to 32GB. Besides, there is 1GB RAM. It
has a 1-GHz, dual-core Cortex A9 CPU and a 7,000 mAh Li-Po battery with up to 2,000 hours of
standby. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 weighs 588g.
The Apple iPad Air 2 is the 6th-generation tablet in the iPad series, featuring a 9.7-inch,
1536x2048-pixel LED-backlit IPS LCD display. The screen has pixel density of 264ppi and
supports 16 million colors. It is powered by iOS 8.1 and runs on a unique triple-core, 1.5-GHz
ARM CPU. It is available in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models without any expansion slot. There
is 2GB RAM and a 7,340 mAh Li-Po battery.
Talking Points:
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 was released in May 2012. The Korean major had been
reporting the sale of more than 1 million Galaxy Tabs (including Galaxy Tab 2 10.1), which was
contested by competitors. Eventually, the company filed total Galaxy Tab series sales of 1.4
million during its copyright infringement case. Apple hasn't yet to reveal any information about
the number of iPad Air 2's it has sold, but the overall sales of the iPad series is estimated to
exceed 34 million.
The iPad Air 2 was unveiled in October 2014 and released the same month. It is the most
expensive iPad to date, but its loaded with enough features to satisfy even the most hardcore techies. It is
worth noting that The Verge has termed the devices as the "best tablet ever made" and defined it
with words like "monumental achievement."
Prices:
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is available at a price of $419.99 on Amazon. The iPad Air 2
has been recently launched at an introductory price starting from $499.
Conclusion:
The iPad Air 2 is the most expensive iPad yet, but it is a tablet that has received positive reviews
from almost every critic. It is loaded with unmatched features. If you have the cash, there is
hardly any other tablet across the horizon, leave alone the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, that could beat
Apple's latest tab.
