Actress Penelope Cruz has agreed to star in the upcoming sequel "Zoolander 2," the long-awaited second chapter to Ben Stiller's classic comedy about a clueless male supermodel, Deadline reports.

Cruz is a high-profile addition to the cast, as she is an Oscar-winner for her performance in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and is one of the most recognizable Spanish actors around the world.

The news also solidifies the reality of the sequel actually being made 13 years after the first "Zoolander."

According to reports, besides Stiller's main role, audiences can expect to see revivals of their favorite characters from the original film, like Owen Wilson as rival supermodel Hansel and the bizarre fashion industry mogul Mugatu, played by Will Ferrell.

Besides the leading role, Stiller will also direct Derek Zoolander's return to the big screen. He has experience in the director's seat from 1994's "Reality Bites" and 2013's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."

Stiller said in 2010 that this update on the world of Zoolander would focus on how the fashion industry has moved on in the past years since Stiller and Wilson strutted the catwalks.

"In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it's changed -- it just happens so quickly," Stiller told MTV. "I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it is 10 years later and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves."

The screenplay for the new film was written by Justin Theroux, who co-wrote "Tropic Thunder" and is also known for being Jennifer Aniston's fiancé.

"Zoolander 2" does not have an official release date yet.
