At the 2014 International Emmy Awards, Latinos had the opportunity to shine.

For the very first time, the International Emmys, hosted by British comedian Matt Lucas, awarded U.S. primetime series that were not in English, according to Variety. This created the opportunity for "El Señor de los Cielos," "Pasion Prohibida," "La Patrona" and "Temple de Acero" to go up against each other, with Telemundo's "El Señor de los Cielos" taking the win.

"El Señor de los Cielos" star Carmen Villalobos was one of the Latinos present. She wowed in her black Johanna Rubiano dress and was one of the most sought out stars on the red carpet.

"How nice to be at an international event and be able to carry the name of Colombia proudly..." she said on her Instagram account. "I am happy with this precious design by a talented woman who is 100 percent Colombian."

In an interview with Latin Post, Villalobos explained that Telemundo's innovative programming is what has helped the network achieve recognition.

"They are new stories, innovative, and very good," she said in Spanish. "I'm so happy that this is happening."

Telemundo produced three of the four shows nominated for Best Non-English Language US Program.

Joshua Mintz, executive vice president and general manager of Telemundo, credited the hardworking people who make up the network.

"We're very happy," he told Latin Post. "We've been working for many years in the U.S., so finally to be recognized even though we don't produce in English, it's very nice."

Mintz explained that though the network is getting more competition from other Hispanic-targeted networks, he welcomes it because it makes TV better.

"Competition is great," Mintz said. "Our country is based on competition. That's different from Latin America, where there is no such thing as competition."

The Telemundo executive also teased what Telemundo has for the future, saying the network will "keep on producing as much as we can and with as much quality as we can."

Latino stars were not just excited to talk about their own projects; they were also excited about what was to come.

It was for this very reason that Gabriela Isler, 2013 Miss Universe, was drawn to the event. She explained to Latin Post that she wanted to attend in order to support other Hispanic talent.

In Spanish, the beauty queen said she had a whirlwind year as Miss Universe and was excited to give up the crown, as she thought that one year was plenty of time to serve as queen.

Isler also reflected on her favorite moment in her year-long reign. As a Catholic woman, she said that meeting Pope Francis was one of the highlights of being Miss Universe.

Meanwhile, the team behind "Temple de Acero" was excited about being at the International Emmys for the fourth time. They traveled from Argentina and were nominated for their documentary series that follows Hispanic war veterans from the United States. The men and women featured are from different Latin American countries and have gone through different experience, the team explained to Latin Post on the red carpet.

"Temple de Acero" shows that going to war is not the only battle. Some who return are not able to go back to living the same life they had before going to war, whether it's because of having lost a limb or dealing with post traumatic stress disorder, according to the "Temple de Acero" team. The project aimed to give a voice to the voiceless.
