Derrick Rose Injury Update: Tom Thibodeau Says Rose Should Get Out and Play to Regain Old Form
Derrick Rose returned to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 97-95 win on Monday, but head coach Tom Thibodeau believes that the superstar point guard should ramp up his activities moving forward.
Rose, who scored 18 points to go along with five assists and three rebounds against the Jazz, looked winded during the second half of the match.
When asked about Rose's status, Thibodeau said that he is unsure if it has something to do with conditioning, reiterating that the former Most Valuable Player just needs to get out and play games to regain his old form.
"He's got to get out there and play," Thibodeau said of Rose via ESPN Chicago. "I thought he did a lot of good things. You could see he's not real comfortable with the ball yet."
Rose, who played in just 10 games over the past two seasons after sustaining two major knee injuries, has been slowed down by ankle sprain and hamstring issues this season, but Thibodeau believes that the 26-year-old just needs to play continuously to become more comfortable.
"When Derrick strings some games together, he's going to take off," Thibodeau continued. "He's got to go. That's the bottom line. He's got to go."
Rose has missed eight of their first 14 games this season. The former Memphis standout sounded like he is aware that Thibodeau is losing his patience, but Rose reiterated that he is remaining positive about his situation this season.
"Every injury is a setback a little bit, but as far as emotions and everything, how hard I worked, it's been consistent with how I'm feeling, being positive," Rose said. "And it's been a minute since I've played."
The Bulls are 5-1 in games where Rose played, and are 4-4 without him. Bulls guard Jimmy Butler said that they are more comfortable when Rose is playing because the sixth-year guard makes things easier for them both on offense and defense.
"He makes a lot of things easier -- on both ends of the floor," Butler said of Rose. "He's always finding guys for open shots, and he draws so much attention that if he don't get the shot that he wants, you better be sure that he's going to get one for somebody."
