The new jailbreak version of iOS 8 for iPhone and iPad users was recently released online, to gadget users' delight. However, slight tweaks of issues to a Wi-Fi problem, called WiFried, is going to make the software even better.

According to International Business Times UK, Mario Ciabarra, a developer, released WiFried on Monday via Twitter.

The issue WiFried fixes stemmed from Apple's Wireless Direct Link, a low latency and high-speed Wi-Fi connection that is used in everyday functionality of iOS, including features like AirDrop, GameKit and AirPlay. AWDL uses its own dedicated network interface, called "awdlo," to operate this connection.

Other features like Instant HotSpot and Bluetooth Tethering, as well as GameKit, rely on Bluetooth SDP for their service. AirDrop uses Wi-Fi, but this affects performance quality for Yosemite and iOS 8 users, as Apple uses Bonjour software instead of AWDL.

Ciabarra said via his blog that he narrowed down the tweak to alter this feature and fix the problems.

"... perform a speed test (many apps to choose from) and simply pull open the Control Center," Ciabarra explained. "This will cause the discovery process to browse and advertise services over your WiFi interface. You'll see an immediate reduction in WiFi speeds that will continue for a minute or two while the AWDL interface continues to browse/advertise. This occurs when Bluetooth is turned on as well as turned off, so it doesn't appear to be a Bluetooth coexistence issue,"

In order to help users who want to fix this problem without losing their jailbreak, Ciabarra created WiFried, which is a disabled feature that can be turned on or off by locating the AirDrop menu of the Control Center.

WiFried is available for download through Cydia, one of the original jailbreak developers, for free.
