British-Irish boy band One Direction has made history and broken records yet again thanks, in part, to their indomitable fan base. The musical group, which in the last couple of years has taken the world by storm, has now broken a historic record for the Billboard charts, following the release of their fourth album "Four."

"Four," the group's fourth studio album, was released earlier this month, and it managed to topple Taylor Swift's "1989" album off the chart's Number 1 spot, according to Time magazine. The boy band's album managed to sell 387,000 copies in the first week in the U.S., the second biggest sales for an album.

According to Billboard, "Four" and One Direction have joined a small and prestigious list of musicians and musical groups, which includes Britney Spears, Beyonce, DMX, The Kingston Trio and The Monkees. All these groups had their first four studio albums reach the top of the chart.

One Direction is the only group in Billboard history to have their first four albums debut at number 1. The Monkees and the Kingston Trio also reached the top of the album charts; however, their albums began at a lower rank and made their way up.

Sales of "Four" boosted following the group's performance at the American Music Awards, reports the New York Daily News. One Direction beat another record, this time in Spotify, the online music streaming site. The boy band's fourth album got the most first-week streams with 11.6 million streams a week after its Nov. 17 debut. However, that was only in the U.S. Worldwide the album was streamed 30 million times on Spotify.

Despite all this success, the band continues to be the center of rumors. When visiting Orlando earlier this month for a performance on the "Today Show," host Matt Lauer asked the boys about Zayn Malik's rumored drug abuse problem, which angered the band as well as fans. Malik promptly denied the rumors.
