A Nor'easter is expected to bring several days of heavy rain, high winds and even snow to millions of people in the Northeast, all the way from Maryland to Maine. Winter Storm Damon is also expected to cause flooding, snowfall accumulations and travel delays at airports as it lingers through the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service, over 2 inches of rain could fall by Wednesday, and a flood watch will remain in effect until late Tuesday night.

Forecasters predict that coastal areas from New Jersey to Maine will receive 1-3 inches of rain throughout the day and up to 5 inches in some areas, The Weather Channel reported.  Residents in higher elevations could receive major snow accumulations.

Meanwhile, the wind will blow throughout the day at up to 30 mph with gusts reaching almost 40 mph.

"You're not going to see a table or heavily weighted item move around," National Weather Service meteorologist David Stark said, according to The New York Times. "But loose items, or holiday decorations, could blow around."

Although temperatures will peak around 44 degrees, the wind chills will make it feel like the mid-20s.

The worst of the storm should pass by late afternoon in New York City, though the evening commute will remain wet and breezy. Clouds will also linger through Wednesday, bringing occasional showers, and there may be snow showers on Thursday.

Away from the coast, the rain is forecast to transition into snow overnight into Wednesday with the heaviest in the interior Northeast from northern Pennsylvania to northern Maine.

One to 2 feet could accumulate in areas in upstate New York, including Catskills and Adirondacks, as well as parts of New England, before the storm ends on Friday, reports NBC News.

There won't be much snow in major cities like Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., if any at all.

So far, strong wind gusts reaching over 30 mph has caused nearly three-hour delays at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Tuesday morning, while Philadelphia International experienced delays of more than one hour, according to FlightAware.com. In addition, both LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey canceled over 100 flights because of inclement weather conditions.
