The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a disappointing start this season, but point guard Jeremy Lin still believes they could turn the tables around and make the playoffs.

The Lakers are currently in 14th place in the Western Conference standings with their 6-16 record, but Lin told David Aldridge of NBA.com that he remains confident the team is still capable of advancing to the playoffs this season.

"People probably think I'm crazy, but I don't really care. I think we can make the playoffs," he said. "I believe in that. I think other guys in here believe that as well. It's very early, and like I said, people will laugh. That's fine. But I've always been a big dreamer."

When asked why he is still optimistic about their playoff chances despite having a disastrous start this season, the 26-year-old point guard, who recently lost his starting spot to Ronnie Price, said he believes in his teammates and that anything is still possible this year.

"Who knows what can happen? Once you get to the playoffs, you just never know," Lin explained. "You just never know the matchups, or whatever. For me, I'm just focused on every game, trying to get to a point where we're improving. If you look at our growth chart, or whatever, we've improved a lot. We just want to give ourselves a chance."

While Lin is still confident they will make it into the postseason, Lakers legend Magic Johnson thinks otherwise.

Johnson told reporters on Tuesday night that he is hoping the Lakers will continue to lose games. He said that there is no point in winning games this season because their title hopes are dim.

The former NBA star also pointed out that if the team continues to lose games, they will get a high draft pick next year, which could speed up the team's rebuilding process as they are also expected to make a run at signing big-name free agents like Rajon Rondo and LaMarcus Aldridge next summer.

"If you're going to lose, you have to lose because you can't be in the middle of the pack," Johnson said via ESPN. "You either have to be great or you have to be bad to get a good pick."
