The Little Prince Movie Release News: New Children's Book Film to Debut in 2015
In a year’s time, the little prince from Asteroid B612 will be arriving on Earth in film form. The trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of “The Little Prince” depicts the children’s book like it has never seen before with the combination of CGI and stop motion animation.
The minute and thirty second-long trailer appears to tell the story of a girl, one who does not appear in the book. The film appears to focus on a young girl and her neighbor, who introduces her to the story of the little prince.
In the French dialogue and text of the trailer we learn a little of what is happening on screen.
Old man: Oh, oh! I'm here! Up here! [He waves.] Good evening!
Little girl: [Reading] Once upon a time, a little prince who needed a friend?
Old man: I've flown almost everywhere in the world, until something miraculous happened.
Little Prince: Please, draw me a sheep.
Old man: I've always wanted to find someone to share my story with, but I think this world has become too grown-up ... It's only the beginning of the story!
According to Vox, the film is being directed by Mark Osborne, who co-directed “Kung Fu Panda” as well as the “Spongebob Movie.” Though the trailer is in French, the movie will be dubbed in English. James Franco, Benicio Del Toro, Rachel McAdams, and Ricky Gervais will lend their voices to the film’s characters.
The trailer featured Lily Allen singing Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know” soothingly.
According to MovieWeb, the film was announced back in 2010 and filming began in 2012. The film had a budget of $62.4 million at the time. Produced by Onyx Films, the movie is slated to air in France on Oct. 7, 2015. It is safe to assume it will be released in the U.S. soon after.
