In many places around the world, there are men who want to pop the question in unconvential ways, such as placing a ring in food, writing the proposal inside a pizza box or even putting their girlfriends on the spot at a sporting event.

But in terms of sheer creativity and physical courage, someone in the Dutch town of Ijsselstein may have everyone beat.

Like something that Michael Scott from "The Office" might have come up with and tried to pull off, an unnamed Dutchman, who really wanted to bowl over his girlfriend, tried to surprise his beloved by attempting to descend by crane before her bedroom window early on Saturday morning.

The man was going to play her a song and then ask for her hand in marriage.

But before he could even manage the declaration of his commitment to her, the crane toppled over, smashing a large hole into a neighboring roof.

The man scrambled to safety, and no one was injured.

According to The Associated Press, the girlfriend agreed to the marriage despite the debacle.

And after getting their statements down for the local authorities, the newly engaged couple went off to Paris to celebrate their coming union.

All was not a happy an ending for the woman’s neighbors, as the crane fell again during attempts to right it with a bigger crane, which ended up bashing in the rest of the roof.

This act of sloppy adoration may even have some political ramifications, as the town's mayor is apparently in trouble now.

Six people in all had to be evacuated, and the world has a new definition for the term fool for love.
