'La Gata' Cast News 2014: Maite Perroni Talks Laura Zapata Feud, Finding a Dead Body on Set
Maite Perroni appeared on "El Gordo y La Flaca" and talked about the realities of shooting "La Gata" in a landfill.
El Bordo de Xochiaca was one of the main places the telenovela was shot, which Perroni said lent authenticity to her character, Esmeralda.
"The smell, what you see, what exists, what you live, how you live, how the people work, people who are there day and night, it's impressive," she said. "The first four months [of shooting the show], I went every day. After that, I went two times a week."
Host Raul de Molina then asked Perroni what the strangest thing she saw during her time in Xochiaca.
Perroni prefaced her response by saying that she felt bad even saying it. She then shared the worst moment.
"Knowing that they found a baby's cadaver in the trash," she said. "That's the reality. Very, very intense."
Both de Molina and host Lili Estefan were shocked, and de Molina decided to change topics to talk about the supposed rivalry between Perroni and Laura Zapata.
Perroni explained that people claim she is offended that Zapata called her La Gata (That Cat), but Perroni says this never happened. She also added that she wouldn't be insulted if Zapata had called her that name.
"On the contrary, I'd like that," she said.
Perroni also talked about her music career and said that 2014 has been a great year for her. She worked on her album "Eclipse de Luna" with her boyfriend, Koko Stambuk.
While on the show, Perroni also gave Estefan a skirt from her clothing collection, which she said was created with Latina women in mind.
"The line was created with lots of love for all Latina women," she said. "It's for all Latina who want to share with their daughters or their families."
