Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks Twitter Beef: T.I., Q-Tip Defend 'Work' Rapper Amid Feud, '212' Singer Not Impressed
Rappers Q-Tip and T.I. weighed in on the Twitter feud between hip-hop artists Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks over the past weekend, reports E! Online.
"Hiphop now was FOR EVERYBODY!!" "A Tribe Called Quest's" Q-Tip tweeted in response to Banks' radio interview, reports Us Weekly.
Actor and recording artist T.I., who collaborated with Azalea on "No Mediocre," voiced his opinion on Twitter with a series of tweets that covered everything from the history of hip-hop to the phenomenon of "white people" earning a place in the black culture and music genre.
"White people who were inspired by our culture allowed ME TO SEE that not all white people out to steal our culture," he wrote. "There are some that merely wish to contribute to it. And I'd be less than ME if I didn't say that... If WE don't allow u guys the same... ...rights & respect we KNOW WE DESERVE in other areas of humanity... WE'RE ALL JUST A BUNCH OF HYPOCRITES. AND THATS NOT HIP HOP!!!!"
Banks was unmoved by the "Dead and Gone" rapper. She slammed T.I. for defending Azalea.
"@Tip This rant reeks of thesaurus and bamboozlement," she wrote.
The Twitter attack on the "Fancy" artist worsened Friday night when hackers posting under the handle @TheAnonMessage threatened to release still images from an alleged sex tape if she doesn't publicly apologize to Azealia and the #BlackLivesMatter protesters.
"MESSAGE: @IGGYAZALEA, you have exactly 48 hours from now to release a statement apologizing to @AzealiaBanks and the protesters in NYC..." a tweet captured by Vulture read. "You are guilty of misappropriating black culture, insulting peaceful protesters, and making light of Eric Garner's death. @IGGYAZALEA"
Twitter has suspended the @TheAnonMessage account.
The feud between the two female musicians started when Banks racially attacked Azalea on Twitter on Dec. 3 following the Eric Garner verdict. Banks accused Azalea of cashing in on black culture and music while ignoring issues that plague black people.
"It's funny to see people Like Igloo Australia silent when these things happen," Banks tweeted on Dec. 3, hours after the verdict was announced.
"Igloo Australia" is one of Banks' favorite nicknames for Azalea.
"If you're down to ride with us bitch, you gotta RIDE ALL THE WAY," Banks said.
Azalea reacted hours later.
"I see all hell broke loose while I was at rehearsals today," she wrote.
Azalea did not engage Banks, however, which seemed to enrage Banks who intensified her verbal attack by calling the Australian-born singer another racially charged name.
The Twitter beef escalated on Friday when Banks said during a Hot 97 interview that recording artists like Azalea and Macklemore are negatively impacting the hip-hop culture.
"I feel like in this country, whenever it comes to our things, like black issues or black politics or black music or whatever, there's always this undercurrent of kinda like a 'f*ck you," Banks told Hot 97. "That Iggy Azalea sh*t isn't better than any f*cking black girl that's rapping today. ... The Grammys are supposed to be accolades of artistic excellence. Iggy Azalea is not excellent."
Azalea responded.
"Special msg for banks: There are many black artists succeeding in all genres. The reason you haven't is because of your piss poor attitude, she tweeted.
