Oh, no! Now how are we going to spend Thursday nights?

MTV announced that the upcoming sixth season of "Jersey Shore," set to premiere on Oct. 4 at 10 p.m., will be its last.

The announcement came days after the show's superstar Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi gave birth to her first child.

According to reports MTV will commemorate the end of the show with a hot tub full of farewell programming, beginning Thursday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m., with a one-hour retrospective, called, appropriately enough, "Gym, Tan, Look Back." The special will be the lead up to the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, airing live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8 p.m.

According to MTV, viewers will get bonus programming each week at 11 p.m. ET/PT following the final episodes, from fan-favorite after shows with the cast to the can't miss reunion special and much, much more.

"Jersey Shore" premiered in Dec. 2009 from Seaside Heights, N.J. In past seasons, the cast created mischief in Miami Beach and Italy.

The cast, mostly New Yorkers, have been said to give Jersey natives a bad rep.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called it "negative for New Jersey," telling a TV interviewer the show "takes a bunch of New Yorkers, drops them at the Jersey Shore and tries to make America feel like this is New Jersey."

The popular reality show spawned spinoffs such as "Snooki & JWoww" and "The Pauly D Project."
