New Year's Eve Times Square 2015: Jencarlos Canela Will Make History as First Latino to Push Countdown Timer in Times Square
The new year is already looking up for Jencarlos Canela.
The singer will be kicking off his new tour in 2015, but the very first thing he will do before the new year starts is make history. Canela has been chosen to push the button to start the countdown timer in the New Year's celebration in Times Square, notes Despierta America. He will be the first Latin artist to do this.
"This is one of the most important distinctions that has happened up to this point," Canela said, according to People En Español. "It's an honor to be the first Hispanic to activate the glass sphere for the countdown to the new year for the entire world from Times Square."
The singer was chosen by the Times Square Alliance, Countdown Entertainment and International Rescue Committee.
"As a young Latino, I am going to do it for me and my family, but also for all the Latinos and immigrants that make this country better," he added.
In December, Canela participated in a few telethon events. He went to Honduras and Costa Rica. He was particularly charmed by the people of Costa Rica, which is why he immediately accepted to take part in the event when he was asked, he said in an interview with La Nacion.
"So little time has passed since my last visit to Costa Rica, and I am excited to return...," he said. "The truth is I love socializing with the Ticos."
He was recently seen partying with William Levy and Larry Hernandez.
Hernandez shared a video of the three of them dancing and laughing. A few days later, his ex, Gaby Espino, and Levy's reported ex, Elizabeth Gutierrez, shared pictures of the two hanging out.
