Tips on Keeping Your New Year's Resolutions to Quit Smoking, Lose Weight in 2015
2014 is coming to an end, and you likely have a ton of things you would like to do better in the New Year. Often, however, so-called New Year's resolutions are hard to keep, so let's take a look at some tips that will make the most popular ones more easy to accomplish.
Want to quit smoking? Yes you can!
Cigarettes are an addictive habit that can cause immediate health issues. These issues can also impact your length of life. Life is already short, so why not make it longer?
"I figure if I quit, my mom will be motivated to quit as well because she has some health issues, and we are [pretty] close [to] each other, so if she sees me not smoking, she might not quit also," Derek Gross, 28, of Webster, Massachusetts said in an interview with Latin Post.
Some methods that have worked for people in the past are finding alternate things to chew on rather than cigarettes. Try toothpicks or chewing gum. CVS pharmacies have rid their shelves of tobacco products, so that's one place those trying to quit will not be tempted.
If you see yourself constantly surrounded by smokers, get out of that situation. Go somewhere where people are practicing better health, like a gym or library.
Losing Weight? This is always a popular one and probably just as hard as smoking.
To lose weight successfully, you need to figure out your comfort zone with food and exercise.
If you don't currently exercise, don't try running a marathon; start slowly. Start out by walking a little every day, whether it is indoors around your home or office, or, if your climate permits, around your block at home. When you start seeing you can walk further distances, keep increasing your duration and speed to a brisk walk.
If you currently find yourself eating big lunches and big dinners, change your ways. Eating a hearty breakfast and small secondary meals works better than having big meals later in the day.
Also, try reducing your portion sizes and increasing your number of meals per day. This means instead of three meals of medium to large portions try five or six small meals. Nuts and fruits are satisfying and great snacks to eat. If possible, reduce sugary consumption of sodas and other drinks as well.
