It's October -- as the temperature starts to drop, the last bits of the awesome summer are leaving us. New York Fashion Week Fall 2013 was just a few months ago, and it's time to start applying some of the top fashion trends that emerged from the catwalk into our wardrobes now -- let's go shopping for new fall clothes!

LEATHER

Leather is important. No matter the season, leather never goes out of style. It can be sporty, edgy, or purely feminine, depending on how it's styled. For this autumn, try the luxe material with a pinch of urban feel in color every once in a while -- in a deep blue or rich burgundy. Take over the streets with the rebellious chic look.

Must-Haves: Leather pencil skirt, leather sweatpants, thigh-high leather boots, modern leather combat boots, leather one-piece ensemble, leather boxy jacket, oversized leather zip-up, leather tuxedo-style blazer

Runway-inspirations: Altuzarra, Calvin Klein, Rodarte, Helmut Lang, Donna Karan, Alexander Wang, Lacoste, Michael Kors

GREEN

Pantone chose this deep, rich shade as its top color for 2013. Pick up an emerald green piece, and pair with other jewel tones, such as garnet, amethyst and sapphire. You can also incorporate this vibrant hue that embodies the autumnal season into your wardrobe, either with a structured bag or high heels in this shade.

Must-Haves: Green camouflage-pattern fur coat, green v-neck leather dress, green quilted showpiece coat, army skinny jeans, green patent leather long coat, fitted army jacket, army oversized parka, green high-waist trousers

Runway-inspirations: Reed Krakoff, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Kenneth Cole, Prabal Gurung, The Row, St. John, Rag & Bone, Assembly

DISTINCTIVE & REPETITIVE PATTERNS

Say goodbye to floral and kaleidoscope prints from summer. This season is all about classic patterns like houndstooth, leopard print, and graphic patterns. Houndstooth print gives chic and professional touch, and plaids will give country-pastoral feel to the outfits. Leopard print has been the hottest trend since last year and its classic brown and black will always be in style; this season, try different shades of leopard print, such as a fun pink or red version. Experiment with various colors, lengths, and textures, but don't forget, the patterns have to be graphic and striking!

Must-Haves: graphic-patterned full dress, repeated-patterned turtleneck dress, sheer silk patterned-dress with embellished belts, symmetrical graphic pullover, striped silk scarf, wrap dress, repeated-patterned button-up shirt, big Polka-dot sweater

Runway-inspirations: Suno, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Louise Goldin, J.Crew, Peter Som, Oswald Helgason, Vera Wang, Brood
