For avid fans of "Shameless," the cult favorite comedy-drama now in its fifth season, it's clear something is afoot with the infamous Gallagher clan, and that means a lot of change, both good and bad, according to the International Business Times.

For starters, Frank Gallagher, now back to form after a long stint in the hospital following a bout with cirrhosis of the liver from his chronic alcoholism, appears to be shaping up for the better. However, if last season's finale is any indication, that won't last for long.

"I went all the way from completely sloppily inebriated to just a little buzzed. [Now] it's just fantastic to be clear-eyed, even if it is sometimes through a narcotic haze," said Academy Award-nominated actor William H. Macy, who plays alcoholic patriarch Frank Gallagher, Variety reports.

However, Fiona, played by Golden Globe-nominated Emmy Rossum, appears to be back at it and will have a lot more boy trouble in the upcoming season. Potential gentlemen callers appear to be former flame Jimmy Lishman / Steve Wilton (Justin Chatwin) and perhaps her new boss at the bar. However, with so much happening in her life, she probably won't have much time for her siblings, especially the one who needs her most: Debbie. Going through puberty, Debbie may show off a darker side, which may be inadvertently triggered by Fiona.

Things seem to be going along swimmingly for Lip (Jeremy Allen White), who has made it through his first year of college. But it appears he's facing a bit of a romance dilemma of his own when his girlfriend, Amanda (Nichole Bloom), asks if they should see other people over summer vacation. If this rumor is true, then perhaps fans may see Lip and Mandy Milkovich (Emma Greenwell) reunite.

Helping him deal with his manic depression, Ian (Cameron Monaghan) is living with boyfriend Mickey (Noel Fisher) and Mandy, and trying to find normalcy and life after the disease. However, when Ian encounters a Westboro Baptist-like church, all three are drawn into a wicked, elaborate scheme for revenge.

"Shameless," the Showtime remake of the award-winning British series that follows a dysfunctional Gallagher clan on South Side of Chicago, has earned multiple award nominations since premiering in 2011, and with the show's popularity at a landmark high, the network confirmed it will be returning to the air for Season 5 on Sunday, Jan. 11.
