'House of Cards' Season 3 Premiere and Rumors: Frank Underwood to Lose Control as President, Trouble Surfaces With Wife Amid Controversy
With 2015 finally here, there's a lot coming our way on network and cable television. And the new year also looks promising for on-demand Internet streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video, according to a recent list of winter and spring premiere dates for all of the TV shows of 2015, posted by Entertainment Weekly.
Entering its third season, "House of Cards" premieres in February, and various spoilers have hit the web.
Netflix's political drama series, based on Michael Dobbs' 1989 novel and the cult 1990 BBC adaptation of the same name, recently wrapped prior to the holidays and information quickly leaked afterwards.
Media outlets and fans of the three-part original series revealed online that Kevin Spacey's character, President Francis "Frank" Underwood, will reportedly lose control of the country and step down from his office and position. This plot device sounds similar to "The Final Cut," the last installment of Andrew Davies' "House of Cards," the BBC series following Francis Urquhart (Ian Richardson) at the conclusion of his reign as prime minister of the United Kingdom.
According to insiders at E! Online, the person plotting The Underwoods's downfall could be a new character by the name of Anto Ivonovich. The character will be introduced in the upcoming season and will have a reoccurring role. He's described as "formidable" and "refined" and could be the sparring partner for Frank Underwood.
This season of the U.S. remake will also highlight the merits, strength, trials and tribulations of the working relationship and marriage of Frank and Claire Underwood (Robin Wright). Their relationship will be tested as the President Frank Underwood's corruption is put in the spotlight, placing his marriage to Claire in jeopardy and planting his wife in the crossfire of a media circus. This could also possibly cause Underwood his hard-earned social climb to presidency and cause the Democrats to relinquish their iron grip over government to the Republicans, who currently hold Senate.
How will Frank and Claire get out this one?
Season 3 of "House of Cards" has a release date set on Feb. 27.
