With the holiday season over, Hollywood will return to the DVD releases with strength.

This week, a number of awards friendly films will be released for people to see and catch up before the Golden Globes on Sunday:

Boyhood

After being a smash hit in theaters, IFC Films will finally release Richard Linklater's masterpiece.

The film takes place over the span of 12 years and tells the story of Mason, from age 5 to age 18. The film stars Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette and is being hailed by critics as the best film of the year. It is also being touted as the front-runner to win the Oscar. "Boyhood" has scored rave reviews and has already won several critics' prizes. Already nominated for Golden Globes and Critics' Choice awards, this film should entice the Linklater fans as well as curious moviegoers who want to see all the Oscar contenders.

Get On Up

The latest film by Tate Taylor starring Chadwick Boseman chronicles the life of legendary entertainer James Brown and his rise from extreme poverty to becoming one of the most influential musicians in history.

The film also stars Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis and was expected to be a big hit at the box office as well as with awards. However, it never quite struck a chord with audiences and ultimately flopped. Reviews were spectacular and Boseman--who will play the lead role in Marvel's upcoming "Black Panther" movie-- was even praised for his performance. The lack of Golden Globe nominations made it all the more noticeable that the film has really resonated on many levels. Nevertheless, Brown fans will definitely enjoy this biopic.

Left Behind

Hailed as one of the worst films this year, the new movie based on the popular Christian-based books tells the story of a small group of survivors who are left behind after millions of people suddenly vanish and the world is plunged into chaos and destruction.

Nicolas Cage stars in the movie which scored terrible reviews and ultimately flopped at the box office. The movie is likely to pick up a following from the Bible belt audiences. However, with previous films already made by Kirk Cameron, the new Cage version could be over shadowed.

No Good Deed

Sony's big fall breakout will finally be released for home video.

The new film tells the story of an unstable escaped convict who terrorizes a woman who is alone with her two children. The film stars Idris Elba and Taraji Henson, and during its run in September, "No Good Deed" made $52 million. With no good thriller out in the market, this new film should easily obtain an audience and perhaps be a VOD and DVD hit.

The Guest

Adam Wingard returned to the helm after his acclaimed "You're Next."

His followup film, "The Guest," tells the story of a soldier who introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence. The film, which premiered at Sundance, scored rave reviews when it was released. However, it did not generate interest among audiences in cinemas. "The Guest" has a second chance on VOD and DVD and could become a cult classic in the way "You're Next" did.

Among the indie releases include Entertainment One's "Two Night Stand," starring Miles Teller, First Run's "The Pleasures of Being out of Step" and International Film Circuit's "Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case."

Atlas Distribution will also release "Atlas Shrugged III: Who is John Galt" based on the popular novels, and Radius-TWC will bring out Daniel Radcliffe's "Horns," a horror film that flopped.
