Ignacio Ruiz, a 37-year old man linked to a fatal New Year's Day shooting in South Texas, has been arrested in Piedras Negras, Mexico.

Ruiz was wanted for the shooting death of Joshua Vidale, age 27, San Antonio’s KSAT 12 reports. He was arrested Saturday in the Mexican border city of Piedras Negras.

After the San Antonio shooting, Ruiz fled to Piedras Negras, where he is now accused of committing multiple robberies and has been tied to the kidnapping and murder of a taxi driver. When Ruiz’s cab driver attempted to alert a police officer about the danger he was in, Ruiz is alleged to have shot the cab driver and then fired away at the cop.

U.S. Marshal Robert Almonte described the scene.

"The cab driver attempted to flag down a police officer," he said. "Apparently Mr. Ruiz noticed that, shot the cab driver, shot the police officer and also, in the course of the shooting, shot two other bystanders."

The cab driver died Saturday night.

The police officer died on Sunday morning.

The two wounded bystanders are still in the hospital.

Two more related arrests were made in Texas, according to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, The Associated Press reports.

Isidro Lopez, who is suspected of aiding and abetting in Ignacio Ruiz's escape to Mexico, and Ismael Ruiz, the suspect's brother, were also arrested. Ruiz was already wanted on a prior warrant for allegedly assaulting a peace officer. He will remain in Mexico to face the charges against him and will only be returned to the U.S. to face the murder charge after he faces the Mexican justice first.

Almonte described the capture as a "remarkable collaboration" by law enforcement agencies in the United States and Mexico.
