Actor Khan Bonfils, who starred in “Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace” and two James Bond movies, passed away after collapsing during play rehearsal in London. The cause of death remains unknown.

The Craft Theater company announced on Twitter that Bonfils, 42, passed away on Jan. 5 while rehearsing for the play’s upcoming production of “Dante’s Inferno: A Modern Telling.”

Chris Hislop, the acting company’s spokesperson, explained what happened, including how company members attempted to resuscitate him to no avail.

''Kan collapsed during a rehearsal, and the director Rocky Rodriguez Jr. performed CPR on location,” Hislop told BBC. "The entire company are in shock. There is absolutely severe sadness. It is a real tragedy."

On the company’s website, director Rocky Rodriguez said that he is upset by Bonfils’s passing, but the play will go on.

“We’ve been through a bit of a trauma, it’s all very difficult to stomach. The only thing we know how to do is continue to do what we do. We need to finish the journey that Kan was on,” he said.

Ryan Prescott will replace Bonfils in the production, which was set to open on Jan. 8. The production has been pushed to Jan. 10 at the Rag Factory, however.

"It was due to open on Thursday. If things go to plan and if the incoming actor is able to do the job, we are hoping to open on Saturday,” Hislop said, according to the Telegraph.

Bonfils played Jedi Master Saesee Tiin in “Phantom Menace," a henchman in “Skyfall” and Isagura in “Tomorrow Never Dies.” He also played various roles in the West End, reports the BBC.
