How to Watch 'Friends' Online: Matthew Perry Says His New 'The Odd Couple' Sitcom Will Not Be as Big as 'Friends,' Discusses Reunion
While promoting his new sitcom, "The Odd Couple," at the 2015 TCA Winter Press Tour panel, actor Matthew Perry also reminisced on the success of his former hit-sitcom, "Friends,"
E! News reports although Perry expressed his excitement to be starring in "The Odd Couple," he did admit that no future sitcom with which he is involved will ever compare to "Friends."
"I didn't envision living past 2000, so I had no idea [how big 'Friends' would get]," Perry revealed. "I never really thought about the future, and I had no idea I would ever be involved in something as big as 'Friends' and I will never be involved in anything as big as 'Friends' ever again because TV is so different now."
Despite his views on TV changing, Perry is still hopeful that "The Odd Couple's" time slot will bring much success to the show.
"With the time slot we have for 'The Odd Couple,' it's ideal," Perry said. "It's exactly where we want to be, after the biggest comedy on television; our premiere episode is after 'The Big Bang Theory' and before the final episode of 'Two and a Half Men.' I couldn't ask for anything better than that."
Naturally, Perry's comments on the success of "Friends" sparked the question of an upcoming "Friends" reunion
"Listen, there's always talk about a reunion, but there's no real talk about that," Perry replied. "There's been no talk about a reunion. We try to get together and have dinner once in a while, and even that's hard to do! We've just told all the stories that needed to be told. We told 237 of them."
Back in April, Perry's "Friends" co-star Courteney Cox expressed those same sentiments about not needing a "Friends" reunion. In a past interview with David Letterman, Cox said "it's not gonna happen" in response to Letterman's question about a "Friends" reunion movie. Cox also revealed she can't even get the cast to commit to dinner let alone commit to an entire reunion production.
"Let me tell you something: There's six friends, and I've been trying to put together a cast dinner for 10 years. It doesn't happen," she explained. "I can get the girls to come, maybe Matthew Perry. Matt LeBlanc canceled last time right at the last minute. Schwimmer lives here (in New York City) so it's just not gonna happen."
Despite there being no reunion in the works, "Friends" fans can still watch the entire series on Netflix.
