The highly awaited showdown between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Miguel Cotto might not push through as reports indicated Golden Boy Promotions is now looking for other options for Canelo's next fight.

According to FightNews, GBP President Oscar De La Hoya has been frustrated over the status of the negotiation for the Alvarez-Cotto fight, which will likely happen in May if both fighters agree to a deal.

De La Hoya has reportedly talked to Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum about the possibility of getting a new opponent for Alvarez because Cotto remains noncommittal to a showdown against Canelo. Former welterweight champion Timothy Bradley is being mentioned as Canelo's possible opponent for his next fight.

"We've been told that Canelo's promoter Oscar De La Hoya has spoken with Top Rank's Bob Arum about other potential foes, such as former world champion Timothy Bradley," FightNews reported. "Alvarez has expressed frustration over WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto's unwillingness to commit to the fight."

De La Hoya blasted Cotto for his unwillingness to finalize a deal for the Canelo fight. Sources said the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion is pushing for a bigger share of the fight purse, which is reportedly the main reason why the fight has yet to be finalized.

Alvarez, who won against Alfredo Angulo and Erislandy Lara last year to improve his record to 44-1-1 with 31 knockouts, has started training for his next fight, said his manager, Jose Reynoso.

"We are already in California," Reynoso told BoxingScene. "We do not know anything about the negotiations, but as for the preparation it has already begun, slowly, but we've already started. We're not doing too much. He is already jogging, doing some movements, nothing strong but in a few days we'll start the stronger stage."

If the proposed Cotto-Alvarez fight fails to happen, Bradley, who is aware of talks about a possible showdown against Canelo, is reportedly open to facing the former world champion.

Joel Diaz, Bradley's trainer, said the 31-year-old former welterweight champion is willing to move up in weight to face Alvarez or even Cotto. Diaz expressed confidence the California native will perform well against Alvarez despite the size disparity.

"I honestly think he would do good," Diaz told BoxingScene. "He would match up really good, because Tim has always been the smaller guy - even in the amateurs. In the amateurs Tim fought at 152, in his last fights in the amateurs. Internationally, in the amateurs, he fought at 152-pounds."
