BCS Standings 2013: College Football Rankings, Polls - Alabama Stays Number 1, Oregon Jumps to Number Two Spot
While NFL teams are known for winning or losing, college football teams are not only known for winning but just how big of a win they can manage to pull off -- at least until the playoff system comes into effect following this season.
That emerged as a big deal this past weekend when Oregon jumped over Florida State in the BCS standings after the Ducks defeated UCLA by a wide margin, 42-14, to send the Bruins from the number 12 spot all the way down to number 20. The Florida State Seminoles, on the other hand, were just ranked number two behind Alabama but sunk further down following Oregon's win.
Oregon has scored at least 42 points in every single game this season but head coach Mark Helfrich doesn't want anyone to start jumping the gun with expectations for his team down the stretch.
"Like we were talking about last night, somebody else of an opponent's strength of schedule's strength of schedule doesn't matter how good of a Tuesday we have," Helfrich said this past weekend. "All that stuff doesn't matter playing Oct. 27 or for a couple more months, none of that matters at all."
Ohio State, at number 4, and Baylor, at number 6, are also within screaming distance of the BCS Championship race but would not only need to keep winning but also would have to get help from the teams above them in the standings.
Miami is ranked seventh and Clemson comes in behind at a dismal eighth place after starting the season 2-0 and losing the ensuing three games.
