Popular 14-Year Old Dallas, Texas Teenage Girl Accused of Drowning, Killing Baby
Dallas police have charged a 14-year-old girl with capital murder stemming from the deliberate drowning death of a two-month-old infant.
According to police Maj. Rob Sherwin, paramedics arrived at a home in the Red Bird neighborhood early Monday morning to find baby Justice Hall already dead, Dallas News reports. The baby had been staying in the home with the teenage girl's family while her mother is incarcerated. Shortly after giving birth and being arrested on unknown charges, the mother petitioned Child Protective Services to allow the infant to stay with the family while she was away.
Authorities are withholding the name of the 14-year-old because of her age, but add she is now being held at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center. Ultimately, the D.A.'s office will decide if she will be charged as an adult in the case. Investigators have not speculated about a potential motive for the attack.
"There's very little doubt that this investigation has revealed that this is an intentional act," Sherwin said.
According to Yahoo, another teen was reportedly in the home at the time of the incident, and police now consider that person to be a witness. The 14-year-old girl has a twin sister and a 19-year-old brother, both of whom are believed to also reside in the home.
Police said the teen's mother was at work at a nearby Wal-Mart when the incident occurred. Neighbors later told reporters she could be heard screaming in agony after returning home and learning of the tragedy.
"They say it takes a village to raise a family," said Kaleisha Taylor, who lives nearby with her 7-month-old daughter. "So, we're going to have to be that village that they need."
Neighbors added the 14-year-old twins were extremely popular in the neighborhood and played sports at the nearby middle school they attended.
