Fitbit Surge, Flex, Charge Review, Price & Features: Apple Distances Itself From Fit Bit Ahead of Apple Watch Debut
Fitbit fitness trackers are legitimate health devices and will not be limited by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The FDA is calling Fitbit and other fitness trackers low-risk devices and basically is saying they can only help better a person's body rather than harm it.
This is good news for Fitbit and the upcoming Apple Watch. Fitness tracking devices have become largely popular and because the FDA will not regulate them very much, it paves the way for better, more advanced trackers to be released.
Are Apple and Fitbit Distancing?
Apple is set to release their own smartwatch that will have some fitness tracking features but will be more like a phone on your wrist. Fitbit's watches are mostly for fitness tracking and not really designed to be smartwatches. However, Fitbit's latest model, the Surge, has some smartwatch features, such as a caller ID.
Since Apple's watch will come out in March, they have removed Fitbit products from their online stores.
Fitbit and smartphones have paired nicely for a couple years thanks to Bluetooth and USB connections. Despite the two companies distancing themselves, Fitbit will continue to work on iOS devices for importing data.
Apple will not be able to compete with Fitbit on price though. Fitbit's most expensive model is about $250 (the Surge). Apple's smartwatch will start at $349 and go up from there.
