This week, Apple admitted that a small batch of iPhone 5s devices, which are the company's current premier line of units, are suffering from a problem that can negatively affect the phone's battery life.

PC Mag reported that Apple released a statement regarding these defective units. "We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5s devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life," Apple said in this statement. "We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone." However, Apple did not state specifically how many units were affected.

Defective units were also confirmed by the customers themselves. On the Apple forums, iPhone 5s customers are complaining about their phones' defective batteries, although it has not been confirmed whether their units are the ones specifically affected by this manufacturing issue that Apple acknowledged.

Users are disappointed that the iPhone 5s units did not live up to what the Apple website says it they can do, in terms of their battery life. A first, for Apple, because their phones usually perform the way they are marketed. Based on the Apple website, a 5s should last 10 hours of talk time on 3G but up to 250 hours if the phone is on standby. The phone should last for 8 hours of Internet use of 3G and up to 10 if it's on LTE or Wi-Fi. The phone should also have the ability to play videos up to 10 hours, and play music up to 40 hours.

According to ZDNet, Apple offered to replace the defective units. According to Apple's spokesperson, "We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone." Apple claimed that thousands of the millions of 5s units sold are affected.
