According to The YBF, Ava DuVernay is set to write, produce and direct a new film with Participant Media.

Executive producers Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King, who collaborated with the director on her critically acclaimed 2012 film "Middle of Nowhere," are attached.

King spoke to Variety about the project, saying: "Hurricane Katrina is one of the most important social and environmental stories of our time. Ava DuVernay has shown herself to be highly skilled at bringing intimacy and contemporary urgency to epic events. We have been looking for the right way to get back in business with Ava, and with David Oyelowo, and are proud to re-team with them on her original idea, which we believe will be a powerful film."

The project will mark a trifecta in the collaboration between DuVernay and Oyelowo, who were both snubbed by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this year for their work on on the historical drama "Selma," while the universally lauded project was only nominated for Best Picture in a category of eight films.

There is little known about the untitled project, but it has been described as a feature film chronicling a new love story/murder mystery set during the time of Hurricane Katrina. A start date has not been set.

"The story we're interested in will explore the complexities of intimate relationships within times of chaos, while also examining the chaos itself. I'm looking forward to the journey," DuVernay said.

DuVernay is represented by Paradigm and the law firm Del, Moonves, Shaw, Tanaka, Finkelstein & Lezcano, while Oyelowo is repped by CAA, Inphenate and the law firms Hamilton Hodell and Schreck Rose Dapello and Adams.
