Marshawn Lynch has attended the Super Bowl media day events avoid getting fined, but the NFL is reportedly considering fining the Seattle Seahawks running back for another reason.

ESPN reported that the league is studying whether Lynch violated rules when he wore a hat with his now-famous "Beast Mode" logo during the event. Lynch sported the "Beast Mode" hat during the media day, and wore another hat of a different color but with the Beast Mode logo on it during Wednesday's media availability.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy declined to confirm reports about the purported investigation, but sources indicated that Lynch could be handed a significant fine if the investigation proves that he used Tuesday and Wednesday's event to promote a brand that was not approved by the league.

According to reports, the Beast Mode hat was made available online for $33 each and was described as the hat "Marshawn wore during the 2015 SB Media Day."

The league has already made it clear that wearing brands that compete with their official partners is prohibited during games and interviews, including the Super Bowl media day.

In 2007, Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was handed a $100,000 fine for wearing a hat with Vitaminwater logo on the podium during the Super Bowl XLI. The league decided to fine Urlacher because it violated their deal with Pepsi, the company that owns Gatorade.

As for the Beast Mode hat, sources said that Lynch might have used his time on the podium for free advertising, knowing that photos of him will go viral online. ESPN reported, though, that Lynch's case is not similar to Urlacher's because the running back's hat was made by the league's official hat, New Era.

Lynch was fined by the league several times before, including an $11,050 penalty for grabbing his crotch after scoring a touchdown in one of their games last month. The league also fined Lynch $20,000 for repeating the gesture in their NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson came into his teammate's defense on Wednesday.

"There are times I don't think he should be fined, especially to extent that people try to fine him," Wilson said. "That's just my honest opinion. The guy loves the game. Sometimes people try to take away from people the way they are. I don't think he should be fined, personally."
