Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was arrested for murder on Friday in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed one person near Los Angeles, reports Reuters.

A man fitting Knight's description drove up to a hamburger joint in Compton, California, around 3 p.m. on Thursday and began arguing with two people outside, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant John Corina said.

He backed his red Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck into one of the individuals before running them both over and fleeing the scene.

Knight, the 49-year-old co-founder of Death Row Records, had an earlier altercation Thursday with the same two people, Corina said.

One of the victims died at the hospital. The second victim was also taken to the hospital, but that person's condition is unknown.

Before his arrest, the former rap impresario and his attorney arrived at the sheriff's department in West Hollywood to meet with homicide detectives, according to the office.

The department confirmed the arrest on Twitter early morning Friday: "*Update* Suge Knight arrested for murder in connection to fatal traffic incident in #Compton Booked at @WHDLASD Station held on $2M bail."

Knight has had frequent run-ins with the law. His rap sheet dates back to 1987 and includes domestic violence, assault, "consorting with a gang member," drug possession and more. In November, he pleaded not guilty to a criminal charge that he stole a camera from paparazzi outside a studio in Beverly Hills. He was released on bail.

In August, Knight was shot and wounded inside a nightclub on the Sunset Strip during a party before the MTV Music Video Awards.

Death Row Records was a leading record label in the 1990s that featured rap icons such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

The record label declined after Knight was imprisoned because of a parole violation, Shakur was murdered and Dr. Dre left the label.
