Marion 'Suge' Knight Reportedly Suffers 'Medical Emergency' After Pleading Not Guilty to Murder Charges
Marion "Suge" Knight remains hospitalized after reportedly suffering a "medical emergency" just minutes after pleading not guilty to an array of criminal charges -- including murder and attempted murder -- stemming from a recent hit-and-run accident.
TMZ reports, just minutes after appearing in a L.A. County Superior Court early Tuesday, the 49-year-old Knight suffered "an unspecified medical problem" that resulted in him being rushed to an area hospital. Reportedly, Knight had been returned to a holding cell area when he was overcome by what some speculate was a panic attack.
Knight is formally charged in the hit-and-run death of 55-year-old Terry Carter. He also faces charges he committed a violent felony while being out on bail in an accident that likewise left 51-year-old Cle "Bone" Sloan seriously injured.
Several media outlets have also reported Knight faces a potential third strike in his most recent case and is being held without bail. Knight's prior felony convictions stem from arrests on assault with a deadly weapon charges. He is slated to be reappear before a judge on Monday for jet another bail review hearing.
Detectives claim Knight and Sloan briefly fought before Knight made it to his vehicle and reversed it in the direction of both men, then accelerated. Knight turned himself into police after learning he was wanted for questioning.
Knight's one-time attorney, James E. Blatt, has since told reporters his client was savagely assaulted while trying to escape his attackers and only accidentally ran over both men. He added Knight was "heartbroken" about the turn of events, particularly Carter, whom he considered a longtime friend.
When asked his opinion of Knight's version of events, Sloan's attorney Michael Shapiro told the L.A. Times, "a man against a car. How do you vote?" He later added of his client, "he's really not doing well at all. I don't see how the guy lived."
