Taco Bell New Items 2015: Fast Food Chain Testing the Quesalupa, a Chalupa With Cheese-Stuffed Shell, in Toledo, Ohio
If Toledo, Ohio, does not love Taco Bell's newest idea, the Quesalupa, the rest of the nation will not get a chance to try it.
Taco Bell is testing out a new menu item: a Chalupa with a cheese-stuffed crispy shell, USAToday reports. The Quesalupa will have even more cheese paired with beef, lettuce, reduced fat sour cream and diced tomatoes.
Taco Bell locations in Toledo will have the ultimate say whether or not this item makes it to the national level. Some 36 different Taco Bells will test it next month.
Taco Bell wants help from fans testing out the Quesalupa. The company is encouraging Ohio residents to tweet #Quesalupa on Twitter. The best tweets will be displayed on an electronic billboard on Interstate 475 in Toledo.
Taco Bell executives hope its idea for a cheese-infused shell will pan out. Toledo was also where the Doritos Taco was tested and then born. That taco ended up being one of fast food's greatest recent successes.
New products give excitement to the ever-changing tastes of Americans, especially those defined as millennials. On social media, millennials demanded Taco Bell bring back the 99-cent chicken flatbread sandwiches after they disappeared from the menu. Taco Bell listened to them and brought the item back for a few months in 2011.
If the Quesalupa is as successful as Taco Bell expects, the price could vary. During testing, it will cost $2.99.
Taco Bell brought breakfast to many chains in 2014 and introduced new items like the Waffle Taco and AM Crunchwrap.
When Taco Bell gets the approval of the test market, it will then roll the food item out nationally. The next month will decide whether or not Taco Bell fans throughout the U.S. will be able to try this new item.
