A British teen named Brusthom Ziamani, inspired by the Islamic extremists who murdered soldier Lee Rigby in 2013, planned to behead a soldier.

According to an Associated Press article, prosecutor Annabel Darlow explained this to the Old Bailey court on Monday, saying that the accused 19-year-old told his girlfriend he planned to "kill soldiers" shortly before he was arrested in August.

Ziamani held up Michael Adebolajo, one of two men who hacked Rigby to death near his barracks, as a role model.

As reported in the Daily Mail, Darlow explains: "The prosecution say that the defendant saw Michael Adebolajo as a hero and role model whose crimes he aspired to copy.”

The prosecutor went on to draw comparisons between the young man and his idol, saying, "Like himself Adebolajo came from a Christian family and converted to Islam. Adebolajo had a number of girlfriends and children, a position which the defendant aspired to.”

Officials claim Ziamani used an alias in his Facebook posts where he would call for the implementation of Sharia law in Britain and pronounced that he was willing to die for the cause of Islam.

Ziamani arrived on the morning of Aug. 18 at his ex-girlfriend's home and said, “If I leave this world I don't want any hatred to be left between us.”

The next day he returned to her home with a black rucksack containing a knife and a hammer and explained to her, “Me and the brothers are planning a terrorist attack.”

When she asked him if he meant a bomb he is reported to have replied, “No not like that, basically to kill soldiers.”

According to his girlfriend, he claimed that innocent people would not be hurt, stipulating that it would just be soldiers and “government people.”

Ziamani is currently charged with preparing an act of terrorism, a charge he denies.
