Teenager Courtney Stodden sat down to explain the reason behind her break-up with her 53-year-old husband, Doug Hutchison.

Stodden, also known as "Teen Bride," and "Lost" actor Hutchison made headlines when they got married when Hutchinson was 51-years-old and Stodden was just 16-years-old. Last week, it was announced that the couple had separated.

Stodden spoke with E! News about splitting up after almost three years of marriage

"I was missing him, but not intimately," Stodden said. "I want to be free and embrace my independence and not neglect my youth."

When asked if she reflected on the strangeness of her marriage, Stodden responded with, "Definitely. I got that it was unconventional, but I didn't get how weird and strange that came across ... When I was 16, I got my marriage license instead of my driver's license. Come on."

On Nov. 5 the couple announced that they had become legally separated. According to Daily Mail sources, trouble began when Stodden appeared on "Celebrity Big Brother UK," causing her to feel independent and flirt with Mario Falcone, another contestant.

"After two and a half years of marriage, Courtney and Doug have decided to become legally separated," a statement from Stodden's rep said. "This is a mutual and amicable decision that they're making together."

According to the statement, Hutchison will continue to be Stodden's co-man anger along with Stodden's mother, Krista. The two will share joint custody of Dourtney, their dog.

"As you know, Courtney was married at a young age. Now, at nineteen, she's interested in exploring life as an unmarried single young adult-with the freedom to explore her independence. Doug supports Courtney 100%," the statement said.

Apparently the two former love birds, who share a 34-year age difference, still have love for each other.

"We love each other very much, want for each other's happiness, and will continue being the best of friends for life," the statement concluded quoting Hutchison and Stodden.

"E! News" will air the entire interview with Stodden tonight at 7 p.m. and 11: 30 p.m.
