Netflix announced Monday its streaming video service is now available in Cuba at the $7.99 per month rate that it offers in the U.S.

Cuban consumers with access to international payment methods and Internet connections can subscribe to Netflix and instantly watch a broad range of popular TV shows, stand-up comedy specials and movies, such as the award-winning series "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black"; the adventure show "Marco Polo," and fun kids shows like DreamWorks Animation's "The Adventures of Puss and Boots" and "All Hail King Julien." Customers can also watch Academy Award-nominated original documentaries including "The Square" and "Virunga."

New content is added to Netflix's lineup every month. In January, the company added the popular TV show "Friends", which is anticipated to be among its most streamed titles. The wildly popular TV show starring Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow left the U.S. primetime television schedule after 10 years in 2004.

There is a large selection of movies and TV shows being added to Netflix in February, including "House of Cards" Season 3, "RoboCop" and Starz's "Spartacus" series, as well as British television favorites "Sherlock," "Ripper Street," "Copper," "Doctor Who" and David Attenborough nature documentaries.

"We are delighted to finally be able to offer Netflix to the people of Cuba, connecting them with stories they will love from all over the world," Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings said. "Cuba has great filmmakers and a robust arts culture and one day we hope to be able to bring their work to our global audience of over 57 million members."

By making this move, Netflix becomes one of the first American companies using the renewed diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba to expand their business in the island.

Netflix started offering its streaming video service to Latin America in 2011. The company now has over 5 million Latin American members.
