'Fireball' Rapper Pitbull Files Lawsuit, Oakley for Profits of 'Pit Bull' Sunglasses
Pitbull says Oakley Sunglasses are using his name without his permission with their Pit Bull style of sunglasses. Since the rapper has his own line of shades, he is reportedly suing the company.
TMZ reports even though Pitbull's name is one word and the name Oakley is using is two words, the rapper still thinks the company is using his fame to make a profit.
Oakley sponsored a Pitbull concert back in 2009, and the rapper agreed to wear their sunglasses. Pitbull says that Oakley knew that audiences at his concert would be in their demographics. By wearing their glasses, Pitbull was showing to his fans that he likes them and they should buy them too.
Now it is six years later, and Pitbull thinks Oakley is using his name to convince people to buy the Pit Bull style of shades. Pitbull wants Oakley to stop selling the style of shades called Pit Bull and wants the profits the company made for selling the glasses already.
The rapper has a line of his own shades called the Pitbull Dale Sunglasses and wants fans to buy those, not the Pit Bull sunglasses offered by Oakley.
Pitbull filed the lawsuit in Southern Florida and said that Oakley had "'a specific intent to deceive and mislead consumers' that he was still endorsing it [Oakley] by launching a line of shades called 'Pit Bull,'" The Style of the Case website reports.
Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Perez says that the glasses and name are so similar to the shades he offers that it creates deception to potential buyers.
What do you think of Pitbull's chances to win this lawsuit? Should Oakley be allowed to sell classes called Pit Bull (since it is two words)? Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts.
