AT&T LG G3 Receives Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update in the U.S.
U.S. LG G3 users rejoice -- the Android 5.0 Lollipop update promised in the fall has finally arrived. AT&T announced Tuesday that it is pushing the Android Lollipop 5.0.1 update to G3 customers when they're on WiFi.
"AT&T released a software update for the LG G3 (D850) on February 10, 2015. This update will be pushed to customers via the Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) over Wi-Fi only," notes the carrier.
AT&T missed the "end of 2014" time window first announced; however, it still beats other major U.S. carriers who have yet to benefit from the software update.
LG G3 users with the carrier who were on Android KitKat will finally benefit from the improvements and new features the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update, which is between 689 MB to 721 MB. Google setup wizard (R2G removed) and stability improvements per the carrier's changelog are two perks users can expect.
To check if your device has received the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update, go to Settings > System > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates.
If the OTA update is available, you will espy the available update. Select "OK" and continue. Download the update by connecting to a WiFi network. Reboot your device once the update has completed downloading.
Before you download the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop software update, TechTimes recommends that your LG G3 handset has at least a 50 percent battery charge. Also, there needs to be sufficient memory space prior to downloading the software update.
It is recommended that you back-up important files on your PC or a media card prior to upgrading your LG G3 smartphone.
AT&T has also been busy rolling out new service between Mexico and the U.S. The telecommunications giant bought Mexico's Iusacell last month to build a unified U.S. and Mexico footprint with it prepaid Cricket Wireless service. The company announced Tuesday that Cricket Wireless unlimited calls to Mexico will be part of its standard $50 and $60 plans.
