Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion Chris Weidman was shocked upon hearing that former rival Anderson Silva failed a drug test before his victory against Nick Diaz at UFC 183 last month.

Silva tested positive for drostanolone and androstane during an out-of-competition test on Jan. 9, which sent shockwaves to the entire mixed martial arts community. The 39-year-old tested negative on another test on Jan. 19, but MMAJunkie reported on Wednesday that Silva failed a second drug test leading to his comeback fight.

Weidman, who defeated Silva twice in 2013 for the UFC middleweight crown, admitted that he is wondering if the former middleweight kingpin also used banned substances while preparing for their fights.

"It makes me sick to my stomach," Weidman told the NY Daily News when asked about Silva's drug test results. "You start thinking, 'was he on it when I was fighting him?' There's no telling. It's all speculation, but it makes you think."

Knowing that Silva is one of the most-admired fighters in the world, Weidman expressed concern about the possible effects of the news, especially to young mixed martial artists who are looking up to the Brazilian superstar.

"It's just crazy because there are a lot of young fighters coming up and -- I always thought most of the champions, they weren't taking stuff," he added. "They don't look like they're physically jacked up. I don't feel like those guys with big muscles and these guys who take steroids can make it to the top because it's a negative to take that stuff.

Weidman, who holds a perfect 12-0 record in his UFC career, vowed that he will be a good role model to budding superstars by making sure that he will remain clean throughout his career.

Meanwhile, UFC president Dana White also admitted that he was shocked by reports of Silva's positive drug test.

"It screwed me up for a few days," White said when asked about the controversy surrounding Silva. "I was messed up for a few days after that. I've been a huge Anderson Silva fan, too."

White, along with UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, will talk to reporters in a news conference on Wednesday to talk about Silva and other fighters, who failed drug examinations.
