Little Casesars Bacon Wrapped Crust Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza Nutrition: Restaurant Adds Pizzas With Over a Yard of Bacon and Bacon Bits to Menu
Little Caesars is getting creative with their pizza by wrapping it with 3 1/2 feet of bacon.
USA Today reports the pizza chain hopes Americans love bacon as much as Little Caesars thinks they do. The Bacon Wrapped Crust Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza will go on sale Feb. 23 at Little Caesars locations nationwide. It will cost $12.
"Every time you take a bite out of the crust, you'll get bacon," David Scrivano, CEO at Little Caesars said.
The deep-dish pizza will have pepperoni and more bacon sprinkled on top of its slices. The new limited-time offer will replace the pizza chain's current Soft Pretzel Crust Pizza.
Little Caesars is noticing the extreme popularity of bacon in America. In the past five years, domestic sales of bacon have increased each year. Sales of bacon hit the $4 billion mark, according to research from Information Resoruces.
Fast food chains and restaurants are hoping to cash in: Burger King put bacon in their sundaes, and Red Robin put it in their milk shakes.
"Bacon has become the ultimate indulgence," Darren Tristano, executive vice president at Technomic, a research firm said. "As a comfort food, bacon has emotional connections for many consumers with Mom-made breakfasts and weekend morning family occasions."
Customers looking forward to getting the $12 pizza might want to close their eyes when presented with the nutritional information. Each slice of the new pizza will contain 450 calories, 23 grams of fat, 830 milligrams of sodium and 40 milligrams of cholesterol.
Customers, of course, have the choice not to buy the pizza, but Little Caesars is targeting customers that have a certain taste demand during this promotion.
"You can always get a plain, cheese pizza or a veggie pizza," Scrivano said. "This is a more indulgent offering for a demographic that craves premium quality."
Scrivano says that Little Caesars got the idea for the bacon-wrapped pizza from a member of the chain's research and development team. The member was dining out at a restaurant and ordered a bacon-wrapped filet. This item inspired the team to find a way to wrap their pizza in bacon.
Little Caesars has been a budget-friendly pizza chain for years, offering $5 pizzas. The chain hopes that with lower gas prices and disposable incomes rising, more people will buy the bacon-wrapped pizza.
Mashable reports that the pizza will be offered from Feb. 23 to late April.
